wapa4 Laos’ only water park is located a few hundred meters from the bus station on Boulevard Khouvieng. It opened it’s doors in July 2008 and has become a nice place to relax with the family or to have fun with friends.

For those with children, the park has several different options of how to spend your time. There are two large shallow swimming pools to wade around in or to splash around with the kids. One is around 4 feet deep and one is only 20 inches deep making it great for toddlers to splash around in.

For those who like slides, Nongchanh offers 4 different types:

  • 3 spiral falls
  • The twin falls
  • A six lane racer
  • 1 child slide

The water park also offers the always popular lazy river, where one can freely float away the day.

Walls have been built around the park to shield it from Boulevard Khouvieng that borders it. Surrounding Nong Chanh park helps you forget the hustle and bustle of the traffic awaiting on the outside.

There are two great restaurants located on the water park property: Joma Bakery Cafe and Istanbul Restaurant. Both of these are great options for any meal you may need throughout the day. There is also a nice little play area for kids to play in while parents enjoy their meals.

Bowling in Vientiane

Nov 24th, 2008 Posted in Entertainment | no comment »

laobowlman Bowling has been around in Vientiane for quite a few years.

Now there are a couple of bowling alleys within the city.

Lao Bowling Center is the older of the two alleys and is the place to go for serious bowlers, or those who just want better quality lanes. Several bowling leagues meet here and the better Lao bowlers are often seen here.

Lao Bowling Center also has a bowling ramp for handicapped people or small children.

Smoking is allowed inside Lao Bowling center.

A trendier bowling alley is located on the second floor of ITECC.

Be prepared for loud music at ITECC bowling.  Speakers, mounted in between each lane, are often turned up to near maximum levels.iteccbowl

The lanes at ITECC are sub par. Instead of being slanted one way or the other, the wood appears to be rippled as if it was waterlogged at some point. Balls rarely roll flat and bowling here is a game of luck more than skill.

One redeeming quality is that smoking is not allowed in ITECC.

A game of bowling ranges between 6,000 to 12,000 kip at both places depending on the time of day. Shoes are optional and can be rented for around 6,000 kip per pair. Socks are required if you choose to wear shoes. You can bring your own or buy cheap, low-quality socks at the alleys.
